Client:NIST-ATIS Workshop on Sync
Goal: Increase attendenance and attract new audiences by developing an updated brand and online presence for a telecom workshop.
Challenge: My client for this project included the site’s previous owner and a marketing committee made up of 15 supporting organizations. I had to design new graphics, develop a content strategy, and reimagine the structure of the old website to appease a variety of different visions and goals.
Process: Starting with a content audit of the existing site helped me to identify two key improvements to make: adding session descriptions to the agenda and providing speaker biographies. By focusing on the talent and topics we could potentially boost registration numbers and prove our credentials to new audiences.
We had a very small budget for rebranding and developing the new website so I recommended that we make adjustments to a previously developed event site and create the marketing materials in-house. I created several versions of the logo in Illustrator, and made adjustments to the color scheme and navigation plan of the existing template in InDesign. Once the color scheme and logo was approved, I manipulated the HTML and CSS of the existing site to match the new brand and architecture needs for this workshop.
The agenda is currently organized the by date and time but this will change once details of the program become finalized. I plan to include colors or images to help users quickly identify subject matter; session descriptions will include links to speaker bios.
Once the site was developed, I created a training document to provide detailed instructions for adding new speakers and agenda items. I also worked with the workshop coordinator to ensure that she fully understood how the site should grow: how to name links and validate the site after making changes.
This site was officially finished on August 1, 2013 and will continue to grow as content is developed and we add speakers and sessions to the agenda.
