Strategy for Event Site
Skills:Content Strategy, UX Design, Web Design
Goal: Produce a modern event website to be used for multiple annual meetings with simple graphic and text changes.
Challenge: Planning an event site sometimes feels like predicting the future. Specific details about speakers or presentation topics are never fleshed out when the site needs to be built. For this project I had to imagine what information the user would need and how the site would guide them through the information gathering process.
Using a content-first approach helped me to encourage my team to think beyond page deliverables and consider how information for an event site needed to be structured for our audience. By reviewing past event websites I was able to predict our content needs and create a list of elements (tables, photo galleries, feature boxes, hero boxes, buttons, etc.) that could be combined and swapped to develop different content stories. Our design team received instructions to develop the layout for one home page and one interior page that included these content elements.
